Named for the curious woolly seed heads that cling to the tops of tall stalks in fall. Native to wet meadows and swamp areas of Eastern North America, this plant tolerates standing water and constantly wet soil. Easily self-sows and will colonize if left unchecked. Can tolerate occasional dry conditions. Technically a sedge and not a true grass. Provides food, nest material, and shelter for birds and other wildlife.
