Blue Velvet Honeyberry

Lonicera caerulea 'Blue Velvet'

Honeyberry

In stock · from $37.99

A late blooming honeyberry with blue-green leaves. Small, light yellow flowers bloom in spring. Oblong, blueberry-like fruits mature in late summer when planted in groups with a different honeyberry variety. Does best with morning sun and dappled afternoon shade in Utah. Best in well-draining soil. Non-invasive, unlike some other honeysuckle species. 'Blue Velvet' is not self-fertile and requires a different honeyberry cultivar with a similar bloom time for cross-pollination to produce fruit. Suitable pollinator partners include 'Blue Moon' or 'Blue Pacific'. Plants begin fruiting 2 to 3 years after planting. The berries ripen in late May or June.
