Plant in average, well-drained soil with medium moisture in partial shade, though it also tolerates full shade. Too much sun may fade the flowers. Optimal growth occurs in loamy, moderately fertile soil, while heavy clay should be avoided. Prune after flowering in spring, as the plant blooms on the previous year's wood.
