Before any leaves appear, bare branches become covered in vibrant yellow flowers. Summer foliage is deep green before turning to bronze or reddish purple for fall. Red berries form in summer and are edible with a tart flavor, also very attractive to birds. Adaptable to most soil conditions and tolerant of mild urban conditions. May sucker. Dark brown bark will exfoliate with age and add winter interest.
