Rutpink Chinese Dogwood
Cornus kousa 'Rutpink' Scarlet Fire®
Chinese Dogwood
Currently unavailable
'Scarlet Fire' is known for its showy, four-petaled flowers, which are the darkest pink bracts (the modified leaves that look like petals) of any Cornus kousa. The fuchsia color lasts for an unusually long season, often six to eight weeks in late spring to early summer. The dark green foliage transitions into brilliant shades of red and orange in the fall. As the tree matures, its peeling, mottled gray and tan bark adds significant winter interest to the landscape. The flowers are followed by large, reddish, strawberry-like fruits in the fall, which are edible and a favorite of birds. Prefers full sun to partial shade, with some afternoon shade beneficial in hotter climates.
