Clusters of fragrant white flowers in spring turn into large black polished fruit that ripens in late summer. Berries are high in nutrients and can be used for juice, pies and jellies. The berries are an excellent source of food for birds and wildlife. Dark glossy green leaves turn red in fall. Root suckers need to be removed when colonial spread is not desired.
