Dark-leaved variant of Acer pseudoplatanus. Also known as Acer pseudoplatanus 'Atropurpureum'. Large, handsome, vigorous deciduous tree with a rounded crown and smooth gray bark. Highly wind resistant and tolerant of most soils. Dark green leaves have a velvety royal purple underneath.
